AOL say im On Broadband....BT say there is aflag on line.....or is it a knackered router

Hi. Now, did you try the router itself at a friend's house, or did you connect to his own router, just to see if the laptop works right? Before we blame bad hardware, have you asked AOL to guide you through the setup process, as far as if you use a Static or Dynamic IP, etc? They should be able to give you that sort of information that you need in order to properly run your network.
Alright. Well, I want to verify some things with you... First, you should have an Ethernet port in the back of that router, not an RJ5 (standard phone line) port. I want to make sure your connection is as follows... Your wall jack, with the standard phone line goes into your modem, and the modem connects to the router using an Ethernet cable. Is that correct? Did AOL give you a cable modem, or some other kind?
Is he using AOL?

It's always a possibility that the line was not configured properly by the service provider. Especially if it works for a friend with the same service. Keep in touch
