I have an Emachines T2642 2.60GHz computer. It came with a 40Gig HD, 256MB of memory, a CD-RW 48x max write and a floppy drive. I bought and installed an additional 40Gig Maxtor HD, another 256 MB of memory, and a DVD-RW DRU 530A.
Since my install the only thing windows recognizes is my DVD-RW. It doesn't see the Maxtor 40HD, or the extra 256 Memory Stick I installed yesterday.

I found a Bipsby Trojan Virus on my system and I ran all my anti-virus programs. They showed it was fixed but at times I'll be doing something, like writing an email, and my system will shut down and restart for no reason. Once I just hit my Back Button on the key board and it did the same thing.

Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to solve these issues?
I'm not a beginner but am not far beyond one. So I'd appreciate a step by step," How To" explanation.
Thanking You In Advance!

Did you configure the jumpers correctly on the additional drives? You'll likely want to configure them both as "cable select". See the instructions that came with each. Also, for best performance you'll want the hard drives on the same ribbon cable, and the optical drives on the same cable.

Do one thing at a time.

put the memory in and stabalize the environment. Once it is running correctly, then move on to the second HD. Admin is correct on the cable select. Don't try too many updates at once... you won't know what blew things up.

Post back after the culprit is aparent!

I thank you for your response to my dilema.
I installed the second HD days before I received my memory stick. My second HD was just out in as a slave. It doesn't have an OS on it. I was told to just put my jumper clips on the Master side of the main C: Drive and tp put the pin on the slave side of the added blank HD. You say this is wrong and I should run them both on CS?

I would also like to add to my latest review: In response to the latest advice I'd been given I wanted to add that both my HD on on the same ribbon and my cd-rw & dvd-rw are both on the same ribbon also. But like said I was told to pin my first ( HD ) to master and my second (blank-no OS) HD to slave pins. I will now try to switch things around as you advised to both jumpers on CS.
Thanks Again! <_<
