Ok here is the situation. I have Vista Basic and it seems as if I cannot go to pretty much any web site. As of now I think I can get to about maybe 5-10 websites. What's going on is when I click on a link I get the message "waiting for...." in the status bar, but after a few seconds I get a time out message. This problem even disabled my automatic updates since my computer cannot connect to Microsoft's server. Any Idea's why this is happening?

ETA - Would there be a problem with just putting XP on my computer?

Are you on dial-up? You might want to experiment by turning off the 'phishing filter' located in the dropdown menu that says 'tools' on the address bar. There are also settings that you can work with.
