This can be caused by such applications as Daemon Tools, or by bad/loose cables, or by a drive that's going bad. I've also seen these errors associated with bad power supplies, incompatible media, or bad or insufficient RAM...so this will basically be a crap shoot. If you are planning on adding RAM anyway, try that first and check all the cables when you install it. Try a different brand of media if you have any available. If you have access to another optical drive, you might try installing that to see if the problem goes away.
I'm personally leaning towards a bad drive or insufficient RAM at the moment.

But I know it's not a bad drive; it's brand new.
I'll look into getting more RAM soon and I'll post back when I've got it.
It's just strange to me, because with my experience, RAM issues usually involve programs "not responding" or freezing, and this doesn't seem to a "freezing" issue. It just kind of, doesn't do what its told - almost like there is some error in the system messing it up. However, I do need more RAM so we'll have to wait and see.
I replaced my power supply a while back before I installed Vista, because the previous one had shut out. My neighbor gave me one of his old ones. But I've had no problems with it so I'm not sure if that's the deal that's causing this mess. I'll also try jiggling around the wires inside to see if they are connected correctly, although I believe that they are. I rarely use Daemon Tools anyway, so I'll probably get rid of that and try this all again.
Thanks for helping me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

you could try disconnecting everything except the cd drive... reboot and play around a bit...if it burns correctly then add back one of the things back (like printer)...add them one at a time with a reboot in between until you find the problem device...its possible to do this in the bios but I don't know what your level of experience is or if you would be comfortable playing around in the bios..
I'm not up to speed on vista yet...maybe someone else has some ideas to try..

When working with computer hardware, installing and removing devices, the system relies on interrupt requests. There are default settings that are configured in the system BIOS and recognized by the operating system. These default settings can be altered by advanced users.

I upgraded my system today with 1 more gig of RAM, bringing me up to 1536 Mb of RAM.
I'm now rated a 2.6 on the Windows Rating Scale, as seen in a screenshot below.
I see all the fancy crap I was supposed to see! Yay!
But I still can't burn CD's?
What's up with that?
Itunes "canceled" my disc burn and asked me if I wanted to stop calibration before the CD is burned (see attached) -- so I did.
But then I get the same error that I usually see everytime I've tried to burn a disc. It putters around doing nothing, usually ruins a good disc (by putting 1 kb of info on it) and gives me the error (See 3rd attached).
I'm willing to bet Nero does the same exact thing, and no I don't want to waste another disc in that program seeing as I mainly use iTunes.
So what's up? Any ideas? My system is running at a good capacity. What about those "bad block errors" from earlier or the IRQ stuff?

did you notice the middle error message had a box you could put a check mark in to NOT calibrate the disk before burning...? did you try it...I can't help you with I tunes...cause I do not use it...
Yes I did. I said that in my last post.
What happened was - I checked that, and I proceeded to burn another disc, it started to initialize the disc burn and then it didn't burn anything.
Then it gave me another error message, which was the third attachment.
Should I try this IRQ business?

See if you can burn using Express Burn.

Nero 7.0 tended to not burn correctly cd's correctly on anyone's computer.
Express Burn is the closest to a burn CD I've gotten! I tried to burn 3 songs with it, and it burned 5 seconds of the first song! It then proceeded to skip and whirrrrr in the tray, and not play the other 2 songs at all. But hot-[bleep] that's the closest yet and that makes me happy!
Check out the attachments - but I never saw the green bar go all the way when it said it was "writing."

I watch DVD's on here all the time. So I think that might rule out the faulty-wires theory.

Open Device Manager and expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers catagory. Right click on the channel that your burner is connected to and choose "Properties". Under the "Advanced Settings" tab, is the "Enable DMA" checkbox ticked?
