OK so I did that and I pressed ALT+CTRL+BACKSPACE and beryl worked!! But, when I restarted my computer the same old x server error came up and i was back to square one. Any ideas how to fix that?
Thanks so much for all your help so far I learned so much from you.

do you remember installing any updates between when beryl worked and when you got the x server error?

I didn't install any updates after beryl worked. However I did install other beryl features from Synaptic. I did the update that was in the beryl setup and that was about it.
