I have built my onw PC about 3 months ago, but there have been pauses in XP everynow and again.

It is extremely random, but once te pauses start, they will periodically continue until soem time in the future (which is also random). After a while I stop noticing them, but music and everything will pause for a second, then it will all continue.

When typing, it will repeat the last letter I typed and ignore all others in the freezing, but with another keyboard, it would type all letters pressed, just after the pause.

I know it isn't hardware, as my Linux (dual boot) does not do this. My computer has not always done this, I was wondering if any one had the answer.

Thanks in advance

begin by looking at event viewer for problems that occured while you experience these pauses

start > run
eventvwr.msc
enter

My suspicion is a bad block on the harddrive, and that will show up in eventviewer

Another cause...how much memory?
