Downloading music for free is illegal in most places, and using P2P networking to get the music free will give you a high risk of getting your computer infected.

My brother in-law has his Daughter use itunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/download Of course you have to pay for the songs, but they have some nice parental controls where she can not download a song with out her fathers password/approval.

Also you can save music from your favorite CDs to your computer and load them to the MP3 player (for free).

I thought you can download for your own PERSONAL collection, and it was the uploading/distribution of music, software, etc. that was illegal. Or is that only in Europe?

I know in Canada it’s like that, but there’s no way I could know everyone’s laws around the world  I was just making a blanket statement that “Downloading music for free is illegal in most places,” so if they want to check their local laws that’s fine. My main point of the reply was to make them aware that using P2P networking to get the music free gives you a high risk of getting your computer infected. So I wanted to offer a safe option to download music. :whistling:

here's the catch 22 in that statement.....if you're not allowed to upload or distribute music legally....then where would you find a place to download it legally for free? it has to be uploaded before you can download it...and that's technically what you're doing with p2p software or anything of that nature..uploading a file so that someone else can download it (though it's a real time upload etc...)
