Hi everyone

I have a wi-fi network as follows:

Downstairs (1st floor):
Linksys WRT54GS router
Acer Desktop PC hardwired to it and running Vista Home.

Third floor:
Dell Latitude D820 running both XP and Kubuntu (primarily Kubuntu).
Compaq Presario desktop running Kubuntu.
Both these machines are connected wirelessly to the router downstairs.

To expand:
I wish to have a switch up here because I wish to try adding my TiVo to the network
Plus, I wish to have my own personal network for adding the Tivo and passing files and videos between my machines.
Then I wish to have my personal network connect to the wireless Linksys router for internet access.
Ideally, I'd like to use a wireless connection between the switch and the router downstairs.

It is possible to connect a switch wirelessly to a router? If so, is it very workable? Or secure (let's not leave that out)? Any other advice?

You don't need a switch if its going to go wireless. You only need a switch if you want to add more computers via cable than you have physical ports on the back of the device (or if it would be more convenient to use a switch, say, across multiple levels). For wireless it doesn't matter, you can easily have two dozen computers running off one router if so you desire.
