My desktop Compaq Presario has very slow performance. It boots slowly, opens MS Office Suite applications slowly, opens internet slowly, downloads videos very slowly. It was recently upgraded to Windows XP. The speed seems to be comparable to dial-up. Are there any solutions available to dramatically increase my the machines overall performance? Please help.

Download CCleaner and run the registry and cleanup. There is tab as well for Startup, see whats running, if its not neccassary delete the entry for it. If your not sure what it is, google it or post it here and we will let you know what you need.

Also try a defrag when that is done, those help as well.

If I may add to jaxisland:

You mention that It was recently upgraded to Windows XP. What operating system did you have before? What are the specs of your cpu (type and speed. e.g pentium 4 1.7 gigahertz) and memory (type, volume, speed. e.g DDR 400 256 megabyte).
