Have checked the forums but can't find anything similar.

I have a quite new PC (6 months) which originally ran XP. However, I installed the free Vista upgrade about 8 weeks ago. It was OK until last 2 days. I now get a desktop message after start up "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and can't access any other programe.

The PC go's into a loop of trying to install "windows explorer driver" over and over again.

I still have the Vista installation discs but don't know how to re-install if I cant get onto the desktop.

I have a 2nd PC which I am using to send this message.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

It sounds like something has been corrupted, possibly due to malware.

Is there any files of which are important and need to be removed or is everything backed up/not important?

Here's what I'd like you to try first. After the bios screen (and OS Selection if you see such), press F8 until you see a screen about booting into safe mode. Boot into Safe Mode and see if it loads. (Safe Mode with Networking Support if available).

It should load a clean copy of essential system files and hopefully fix your problem, or else we move to level 2 :whistling:
