Hello,
I have two Windows 98 SE Machines, Comcast Highspeed Internet, Motorola Surfboard 5000ish modem, and a Linksys Wireless G router.
Yesterday I decided to enable the 'file and printer sharing' service. I was low on time so it asked me for the Win98SE Disk and I just hit cancle.
I restarted my computer and got a VSERVER.VXD error so I went into safemode and removed the service.
The error was gone but now the internet won't work.
I plugged the modem directly into my computer and still no internet. All of the internet is done through USB except with the second machine which has a wireless nic
Anyways.. All of the sudden the internet doesn't work.

The router and modem both blink as if traffic was going through. I am able to ping the second machine and vice versa. I get Timeouts when pinging IPs and Unknown Name when pinging domains.

I also attempted to reinstall the file and printer sharing service and uninstall it (fully) but still nothing happens.

Any suggestions would be nice.
Zach.

Comcast has had a broad based DNS failure twice in the past two weeks, including yesterday.

This was likely your issue. I am not certain if the entire network is back up yet.
