Sample:

An included link then tells the recipient to install a free "Microsoft Data Access" application to retrieve the e-card, but that file -- msdataaccess.exe -- is a damaging virus. F-Secure said it has identified the virus as Email-Worm.Win32.Zhelatin.gg.

I certainly get a lot of these which are sent to the delete box automatically.

How do you do that!?I've only figured out how to add a sender to the blocked senderlist- after i opened the e-mail! Maybe you can enlighten me?

I have made a few message rules with keywords that send them to the delete folder. Of course, before I empty the delete folder, I double check to see if emails got trapped there that I want to keep. You can also filter somewhat by using your email filter online.

Mine said the card was from my nephew. But it came to my Hotmail and none of my nephews know my Hotmail address. Besides, they never mention my birthday, and I doubt they even know when it is.

One way to play it safe® is to use MailWasher and see what has arrived before it even gets to your computer.

I have advance account access that lets me see what is in my online mail box without opening anything, plus my incoming/outgoing email is virus scanned. With all that I have, it seems to work, but keeps me on my toes. lol

Zorba, what email program do you use? If you use Outlook, you can use Rules and Alerts in the Tools menu to manage this process. For example, I route all my Geeks to Go subscription emails directly to a Geeks to Go folder so they don't clog up my regular inbox.

That link will give you the common abbreviations used in chat, on forums such as these, etc.

So have things cooled off? Are the fires out, and was your home safe?

The fire came too close (1km)to my house,we had to leave in quit a hurry!Thank God,the only damage consists of a15 cm blanket of ash. When i see that 2/3 of greece was burned, than you realize how lucky i am!Now we're waiting for bad weather(rain).

I guess you were one of the lucky ones. My best to you and your countrymen in recovering from those horrible fires.
