im working on an assignment for my networking class and im a bit stuck, i have a vague (vague isnt really a good word, is there a word for something vaguer than vague???) understanding of what congestion control is, but i missed the class where we covered the topic, could someone give me just a quick and simple explanation of what it is as i dont quite understand it too well.....

I'd suggest doing some research online, or looking in class materials. We're not here to help you with your homework, especially if you don't know because you missed class. If you miss a class, it's your responsibility to figure out what work you missed and make it up, either by borrowing notes from others, talking to the teacher, etc. Besides, a simple Google search can help you.
