;) I have HP computer..which had Windows ME when I bought it..a couple of years ago the hard drive crashed..and I got a new hard drive with XP (PRO)..I have been able to install all updates UNTIL SP2 came along..I had read abt the problems with SP2 so I waited until I thought I fully understood all the pros and cons of updating and HOW to get it done.. before I tried to install SP2..I have tried 2 times to install it and when it reboots..it wont start up in anything except..SAFE MODE..then after I do get back in I have to restore ... I go through all of the steps before I make the installation.. I have had automatic updates checked ..(but NOT automatic install) ever since I have had XP Pro......then I remove Zonealarm..then I do an AVG virus scan...then I shut down AVG..then I run adaware..spybot..defrag and then install..and it always says it has been installed successful..but when I reboot I get the blue page..and it says I cant start the machine up..I have tried this 2 times..and both times the exact same thing happens..and then the only option that works is starting it up in SAFE mode and restoring...Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? :tazz:
I am not the youngest chicken in the hen house..so dont totally understand all this stuff but I am NOT totally computer illiterate either...Since my computer is kinda old as far as computers are concerned (Athlon 800) I thought maybe I had the celeron/intel problem and needed updated bios but my processor is anthlon..Does anyone know if there is any conflict there? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me..

Before downloading SP2, did you make sure that your system was clean of virus, trojans, worms, and malware/spyware/adware, etc.?

After downloading, did you disconnect from the internet, disable a/v and firewall, and then install, and then re-enable a/v and firewall?

#1 The update downloaded automatically but did not install..I have that option selected.

#2 I Uninstalled Zone Alarm because I read there *could* be conflict there and also the SP2 update has a firewall.

#3 I Updated AVG...ADAvare..Spybot..and ran all...

#4 I ran defrag..(however it was not in safe mode when I defragged)

#5 I have a cable modem so I cant disconnect from the net ..but I was not connected via IE or anything else when I installed the update..I closed all programs.. (Roxio, windows messenger, Yahoo etc..)before I installed the update..

Is there anything more I can do? Did I miss something?

Since the update was downloaded automatically (several months ago) when Windows first released it I have thought abt trying to download the update again from another site and trying to install it..do u think that would help?

Thanks again for ur help... :tazz:
