I recently had alot of problems with 2000, so tried upgrading to Vista temporarily to try it out, since we have a copy sitting around. I managed to put all my files I wanted to keep onto an extra drive, with the intention of then transferring them back after the upgrade. Problem is, Vista won't recognise the format of the drive. When I tried to access it it said it needed to format the drive in order to use it.
So I'm open to suggestions as to what to do. I tried a dual-boot but it didn't work (for reasons I have gone into in another thread, 2K isn't working right now on my system) but then it occurred to me that that wouldn't solve the problem as when booted with Vista I couldn't access the 2000 formatted drive and vice versa, yeah? Is there any way around this? Any way I can access the 2000 drive through Vista, through some available software or somegthing? Or is there some way I can change the format within 2000 to one that Vista will recognise?

Go to Start -> Right click on My Computer -> click Manage
On the left side click Disk Management
On the drive you are trying to install on what does it say under the File System column?

It says RAW
I did a search for RAW drives and found a couple programmes for recovering the data, but one cost money and the other wasn't compatible with Vista. Does anyone know of a good free programme for recovery of data from RAW drives, or have any other ideas?
