I downloaded Spybot Search&Destroy and installed it. After viewing it, I decided it wasn't what I wanted so I uninstalled it. The problem is it is still listed in the Windows Security Center as active (turned on). What do I do to rid myself of it? :)

It's a great, free program to have for added 'security'!

See if this works to totally uninstall it:

edit...wrong link :)

I recommend running its "immunization" before you get rid of it. This will block cookies in IE for many known tracking cookies and spyware.

Please forgive me, but I am still learning. The last time I had a computer is when DOS had batch files, you had to unplug your phone to run your modem and a Black Berry grew on a bush. :)

How do I execute This very small Fix in the link you gave me?

To "immunize" using Spybot Search and Destroy simply run the program and click the immunize tab on the left. Now in the top left there should be a green cross that says immunize. Click that button and viola spybot sets IE to block a good # of known tracking cookies and etc.

Immunization in Search and Destroy will conflict with previous versions of Trend Antivirus (and I believe the current versions as well) bringing your PC to its knees performance-wise. You must UNDO the Immunization PRIOR to uninstallization if you are or anticipate ever using Trend.

Bushisland, uninstall Spybot s&d from "Programs and Features".

The small script I gave you via this link: http://www.safer-net.../uninstall.html
Will totally uninstall all added values. Please read the instructions. After following the instructions...
using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\ programs and files....delete the Spybot Search and Destroy folder.

You don't need to immunize anything before doing so.

Jacee, I did what you asked and also followed the instructions in the link, Rebooted, but it's still listed in the Security Center as turned on. What's next? :)

Do you have a different antivirus/antispyware installed? Such as Windows Defender?

Yes, I have McAfee VirusScan Plus And Windows Defender, but Defender is turned off. But I don't remember if it was off at the time of Spybot install, If that would matter.

Hello Jacee,

In my plight to get rid of SpyBot S&D from the Security Center I reinstalled it and then uninstalled it as per the SpyBot link again. I followed the instructions very carefully. Results are the same, except there is no Logo now in front of SpyBot Search&Destroy..........Status On. There has to be something left reporting it to be on. I'll just wait on the side. :)

Best Regards,
Bushisland
