I need help with some organization. I can't seem to find a comfortable way to organize my bookmarks, but I always feel too 'untidy' to fix it, so I need some suggestions. Can you tell me how you organize your bookmarks in your internet browser? Is it folders? Seperators (Firefox)? Thanks, dudes/dudettes.

I think it's a very good idea to organise your bookmarks. I'm very organised, and have files and folders separated neatly on my computer, bookmarks are the same. If you have a look at my picture, I have the major bookmarks that are accessed by my wife and me on the main menu, and then separate folders each for things that we don't share. So in this example you can see in my folder I have G2G research, access to my router, hardware and PSU information... All things that are current for me. And they are all in neat order, so everything that's relevant to the topic comes under the foldername.

And I always sort by alphabetical order! :)

EDIT: so I just noticed in my G2G research folder, that it wasn't in alphabetical order - I've changed that now. That's the kind of guy I am :)

I can understand how you feel Mlibib especially bing a geekU trainee.

I use Google Bookmarks for mine. Just wish I could export them.

Here are my Categories(I use Google Bookmarks and folders for the actual browsers) and they are just the Technical ones.

Computer Fourms (6)
Computer Sales (3)
Educational (7)
Educational/Information (1)
Homepage (9)
Linux Support (12)
Malware Training (4)
Mobile (2)
ND GAMES (1)
ND_Repair Programs (11)
ND_Repair Sites (6)
ND_Repair Tools (5)
ND_repair Programs (1)
Network Tools (5)
Parts Suppliers (2)
Programing (1)
Repair Resources (12)
Repair Tools (1)
Security (14)
Shipping Carriers (2)
Windows Repair Programs (6)
Windows Repair Sites (14)
Windows Sites (13)
Windows Support (18)

And yes those are the number of sites that I have in each category. The Categories are not as organized as I would like but it will get then when I have time to Clean them out.

My Microsoft KB favorite got too large so I just put them into a document.

I have no bookmarks. You heard it right, I can't stand them! :)

I remember the first letter of the address and I type it, then the site shows up :)

I've never used bookmarks. If I come across a site that I know I'll want to revisit on a somewhat regular basis I put it into favourites (which I have subcategorised into folders like ... computer, home, business, funny, finance, etc).
Can someone explain to me what's the difference between favourites and bookmarks?

Edit: Oh, and landlord, if you clean out your computer regularly wouldn't the automatic completion of the address be gone?

fran,

Bookmarks and favourites (or favorites :)) are the same thing. They're called Favorites in Internet Explorer and Bookmarks in Firefox. I don't know what other browsers might call them, as I only have those two installed.

Oh, well, I don't clean out information. I have my dedicated Privacy Browser, Internet Explorer. While not very private, I use it solely for private stuff, then clean it out.

And if I really really need a website, I put it in my favorites. Then, I forget about its existence and next time I need it I go look for it in Google. Trust me, I've tried changing, but I just can't force myself. Oh, but I am pretty organized. My desktop is clean from anything. My folder are organized.

However, my sidebar is a collection of stuff I don't close throughout the day. Especially MSN Messenger windows. I don't close them. What you see below, 6 open windows, is really nothing. Most of the time, I have at least 20 windows open.

My desktop (note that I even erased the Recycle Bin :))

My Documents folder (I don't like having two-languages; everything in my computer is in English, apart from two folders in My Documents that both relate to Windows Live Messenger - I have to use the Hebrew version because it's easier to type so)

I have to have bookmarks I have too many sites to remember.

ALL 100+ of them and there are the sites that I find once in a blue moon that I don't ever want to loose.

Like the DLL help database
http://support.micro...u...=185522&S=0
Or the XP Pro Documentation.
http://www.microsoft...s.mspx?mfr=true
Or events and error message lookup.
http://www.microsoft...e/ee_basic.aspx

The majority of them are Microsoft's web pages which is impossible to find some stuff sometimes.

But that is mostly because I like getting things from the source.

:), as I said, I never use bookmarks :)

Oh, and yeah, Microsoft's 'search' is really, really, bad. They could use Google's help :)

So that is where that post went and that is what I get for using tabs.

*Heads over and tells a mod that it is posted in the wrong area*

I have G2G forums, signs of infection by name, registry exercise, canned speeches, a few other forums, an IP to Host website, spywarewarrior's rogue list, and all of castlecop's hijackthis references in my firefox bookmarks. Other than that, I have 124 bookmarks.

*Fredil Yupigo needs to organize his bookmarks.

If I like a page, I'll drag it into where it says "bookmarks" on the main Firefox bar. if I have a question posted, I'll drag it into the bookmark bar, and when it's answered or whatever, I'll delete it.
