The search-indexer files are possibly corrupted.

A fix I'm aware of is to delete the search indexer files, re-boot and Windows will create new ones.
The two folders containing search indexer data are at:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows

and:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Temp

Those two folders are 'hidden' by default so you'll need to go into Control Panel (classic view)->Folder Options and enable "show hidden files".

Delete all files and sub-folders in those two parent folders (but not the parent folders themselves)
You might want to make a backup before doing so, but apparently it's not necessary.

Then, change the service back to starting automatically in the 'Services Configuration Dialogue' (Start->Run->services.msc) You still can't start the service until you reboot, at which time Windows will rebuild the index and hopefully the error will be gone.
