Get a red background with Your Privacy is in danger download privacy software now. Was able to get rid of it by deleting Privacy_Danger folder in C:\Windows but it comes right back. Ran everything listed in Read this before posting a hijackthis log.

I have been able to get rid of the "red background with Your Privacy is in danger download privacy software now" at least for now. I booted up in safe mode and ran SUPERAntiSpyware, AVG Anti-Spyware, Ad-Aware 2007, and AVG virus scan. I do have under I.E. toolbar "The jokwmp" which is unchecked. Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.


Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Some work to do:
The steps that I am about to suggest involve modifying the registry. Modifying the registry can be dangerous so we will make a backup of the registry first.
Modification of the registry can be EXTREMELY dangerous if you do not know exactly what you are doing so follow the steps that are listed below EXACTLY. if you cannot perform some of these steps or if you have ANY questions please ask BEFORE proceeding.

Backing Up Your Registry

• Go Here and download ERUNT
  (ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
• Install ERUNT by following the prompts
  (use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
• Start ERUNT
  (either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
• Choose a location for the backup
  (the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
• Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
• Press OK
• Press YES to create the folder.

Registry Modifications

Next, lets remove the unwanted items.
Please copy the contents of the code box below. To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it. Save it to your desktop has fixit.reg (filetype = any)

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\jokwmp.dll

After that, Reboot.

A fresh HJT log and let me know how the system is running.

I ran the fixit.reg and it merged successfully.

My wife says the computer is still running slow, painting screens real slow. She reboots and it clears up. She is off/on message boards all day. All the other problems seem to have cleared up.

Hey Joe,
Lets see if we can speed you up a bit there.
Time for some housekeeping

• Click START then RUN
• Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
  
  
  • 
• When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

The above procedure will:

• Delete the following:
  • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
  • VundoFix backups, if present
  • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
  • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
• Reset the clock settings.
• Hide file extensions, if required.
• Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
• Reset System Restore.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

The next step would be to take a look at the amount of programs running. Go to your control panel, click add/remove programs, and check the list for programs you do not use.
