first, perform Webupdate- feature.
Then, get the latest reference file.
After this, it's recommended you to run the scan with the latest release, and then, download Beta- definitions and test that..
Maybe?
I use this myself.

I am also on the Beta-testing teamI am participating in the Beta test program. Is it necessary (essential? recommended?) to also run the "released" version to check my machine?

Do you mean you test the new Def's file's ?
If so then yes you will need SE 105 on your PC
I always test the new Def's file then remove it and after the releace I use the WebUpDate to make sure that that is working ok too.

GR@PH, Yes, test the new Def's files with SE 105 on my PC. By "released" version I was referring to the released Def file, currently SE1R39 15.04.2005. If I understand your reply correctly I should run the current released Def file in addition to the Beta.

yes you can leave the currant one on your PC while you Beta test teh new one.
what I do is download the Beta Def's file ie: SE1B40 BETA.ref

and put it in a my Ad-aware folder on "C" Drive
then do the following to load it into Ad-Aware (and Ad-Watch if you have it):
Open the Ad-Aware click on the setting icon (The Gear) and at the bottom of the General window look for 'Use Definition File'
Click (Tick) the folder button
Locate the downloaded Beta definition ie: and click proceed
Ad-Aware will display: Definitions file SE1B40 BETA Loaded
after you have done your scans you can remove the SE1B40 BETA.ref and carry on using the SE1R139 till SE1R40 is released.
(But I always remove both then ues the WebUpDate as by doing that it tests the WebUpDate feature)
When you said
To start with I thought you ment that you were testing build 106 as some of us areI am participating in the Beta test program.
