I decided that I didn't want Linux on my laptop (using it on desktop) but when I re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed Vista, it left 'grub' stuff and now I have to take the long way around to get to safe mode (msconfig). It tries to find the linux menu list. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated :)

There are many ways to remove this. A true format is one. If you have access to another Windows box yank your drive and run a low level format tool. This will completely erase the drive and the MBR, you will need to install Windows again, but it will work.

Here is a link to the formatting tool.

Thank you for responding to my post. I think I should have added a bit more info :) I have a tech boot disk that I made in class, the only problem is I don't have a floppy drive. And I do have another computer but this is a laptop, and I wouldn't even know where to start in pulling the hard drive. That subject will come up next quarter.

Thanks for the input, any other ideas?

What do you mean by "tech boot disk"? Most boot disks can be made in CD format so a floppy is not needed. Also fixmbr can be ran from the windows recovery console, and you definitely don't need a floppy for that. fixmbr might not work.... but it is better than trying nothing.

Have you tried using the Super GRUB Disc? It has an option to restore the Windows boot installation. I've done this quite a few times to get me out of this pickle :)

A boot disk that a technician uses.

Okay, I have a boot cd and I downloaded the super grub.
I'm gonna give these a try, if one doesn't work maybe the other will :)

Thanks for the help, I'll let you know what happens.
