Hard to feel much sympathy for these players, but I do feel they were used. Major League Baseball was still reeling from the last baseball strike when home run records being smashed started to grab the attention of the nation. It brought fans back to the sport. Looking back it's almost painfully obvious that many players were getting too big, too fast, with too much of an increase in performance. The ball wasn't juiced, the players were. Major League Baseball, and probably the players union turned a blind eye to it because they needed the fans.

.....that's a rediculous "rant" that you linked to keith.....george mitchell didn't kill baseball....the losers who felt the need to take drugs to get ahead or to bring fans back to the sport did...and the people who've turned a blind eye to it for so long made it even worse...guess what...people weren't watching baseball because it's boring! not many ways to actually make it interesting anymore either....at least not without completely redesigning the game....i coudln't care less about baseball (i prefer curling)....but saying that someone outing a bunch of roid heads ruined the sport is ludicrous....it's like saying "yeah....i know the president smokes meth on a daily basis...but hey...he's still making a few decent decisions every once in a while"....or like nascar drivers intentionally crashing their cars because it makes more people watch the race
