OK, I want to know what is with SC's and their computers. They think they don't need the protections such as ant-viruses, anti-spywares and stuff like that. Sometimes they say they don't need that stuff, because all they do is get on for a few minutes and check their e-mails and check the website link their friends send them in an e-mail. Can someone please explain this to me.

Matthew I think that your statement is somewhat extreme. You are calling all senior citizens clueless. I know many who are quite computer savvy. Perhaps you could inform the ones you are speaking about of what is necessary to keep their computers safe. I know many people of all ages, including teens, who aren't aware of what is required. It's all a matter of use and experience. Most households have at least one computer these days, though there are still people who have never used them. Our local community centre runs free computer and internet courses for seniors on a regular basis and they are always full. Perhaps you could enquire in your area if there are similar courses available and direct the people you are speaking of to them.

Many SC live on a small income and worry about the cost of things. When you ask them about something that they think they have to pay for they may feel it is not neccesary for what they use the computer for. Try explaining to them the good free programs and how the programs will protect them at no cost.

Sometimes thats not the problem, sometimes they will say they have too many things to do and all they do is sit at home and watch TV.

Be pataint (auggg can not spell) and understanding Please try to remember that these are the people who paid for an built the roads, parks, and other public properties that we enjoy. Also you grew up with computers but many older people do not understand them and do not want to admit there (help with the grammer, Sari) lack of knowledge (or money). something to do with pride.

Teenagers and young adults do this as well.

pride and dignity. would you admit you do not understand something or barely have money for food? explain that the free programs will help protect them and offer to install them for free. explain why there is a need for these protections in a way that can be understood by some one who does not have your vast knowledge. always be respectful and do not look down on some one who does not have your ability, they have ability that you do not.

I wonder why this topic is even in the Tech Discussion ? your statement is very generalized and honestly how you can say it just Senior Citizens that practice this type of surfing habits.

Did you do a study or see a poll somewhere to back up this claim ?
