I was feeling sorry for myself with a co-worker about my soon to be 45th birthday. I am almost 50! cried I. My co-worker assured me I am only middle aged. Thinking about that I did some basic math. If I live to be 75 I past the middle point of my life 6.5 years ago. This does seem to put me over the hill (cant tell you where the past 10 years went). So I pointed out to my 33 year old wife that she is middle aged and will soon be over the hill as well. You would think that, at my age, I would know better.

I am nearing the crest myself.
I think 80 years is considered the "average" life span for most of us in the States here, so that is why 40 is considered over the hill. I think it's a crock; I plan on sticking around for about 140 at least.

So middle age? Between 30 and 50 I guess?

The first 30 years spent knowing it all. The next 20 trying to remember what it was you knew. And the last 30 crying over it all.

But in your case, telling the wife about how she is getting "old".... could result in you being in the last few years (if not days) of your span.. :) :) :)

I did not intend to start any thing. As it is I am in the dog house at home (my wife slept on the sofa)

Look, I'm 68 this year and i consider myself middle age. Middle age is where you are at any given moment. Plus, my wife and i are the same age so I don't have to worry about making comments about age that will have me sleeping in the doghouse.

Middle age is when you look at yourself in a mirror and think that there must be some mistake because the person you think and feel you are should look much younger than what you are seeing in the mirror.

I'm so confused, I'm 48, think I'm 18, feel like I'm 88 :)

So I pointed out to my 33 year old wife that she is middle aged and will soon be over the hill as well. You would think that, at my age, I would know better.

With a remark like that I would think middle age for you was a half a lifetime ago!! :)
