program install extreamly slow

When i try to install any program from cd or download the install sheild starts but the down file transfer takes way too long.
running xp pro avg free

any, as in ALL, or some?

Some programs that use older versions of installshield take a VERY long time to install due to incompatibilities with XP.

new programs like driver updates and Doom3 directx9 and so on are the same

Note the time
Install a program
Start > run
eventvwr.msc
enter

look for Red Xs in APPLICATIONS and SYSTEM that occured at the same time.

Did you

1. NOTE THE TIME
2. INSTALL A PROGRAM
3. Then look at the eventvwr for Red Xs that happened DURING THE INSTALL...or did you just skip all that stuff?

We need to focus down on the problem at hand, then get to the other stuff if we need to

i got a lot of red x's during the install in the system file most were disk event 7 1 was dcom event 10010
