Hi,

* Download ComboFix from here.
**Save it to your desktop**

In case you have used Combofix before, please delete the version you are having and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.

In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again. Because some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

* Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Note - Your internet connection will be terminated while ComboFix runs. Do Not attempt to re-enable it. Should ComboFix terminate prematurely, restart the computer to restore connectivity.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
In case you see a sed.cfexe error with the option to send a report or not, choose "don't send".

When finished and after reboot (in case it rebooted), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt.
Post the contents of this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.

Hi,

First of all...
I notice from the log that there are running more than one different Anti-Virus programs installed. Norton and AVG.
Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

So you have to make a decision here and keep the Antivirus you prefer and uninstall the other one.
Then reboot after uninstalling.

Then after reboot,

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Hi,

Please uninstall Ewido as well, because this version is really outdated. It is called AVG Antispyware now.

I also see references to Xofspy and Regcure in your log. I do not recommend both, so I suggest you uninstall them as well, unless you strongly believe that they are useful.., But as I said, I do not recommend both, since Xofspy gives a lot of false detections and may remove harmless files, and Regcure may rather damage your registry instead of cleaning/fixing it.

I do not recommend Registry Cleaners in general. This because some may rather damage than cleaning/fixing your registry.
Only use it if you have basic knowledge about the registry and know if a certain key/value is safe to be removed or not. Cleaning the registry won't really improve system performance anyway even though there are a lot of orphaned keys. If registry cleaning was really required, then Microsoft would have added this option in Windows already imho.
So use at your own risk. After all, a corrupted registry is a corrupted Windows.

You may also want to read this thread why Registry Cleaners are not recommended.

Then, * Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
O2 - BHO: SpywareBlock Class - {0A87E45F-537A-40B4-B812-E2544C21A09F} - (no file)

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://locator.cdn.imageservr.com

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Hi,

I have removed all those programs also. I installed the new Java, and done the run command. I checked the task manager, and there is no more iexplorer.exe. When I load up an internet site, my internet connection is as fast when I first got it.. It's been a long time since my net was running fast.

Thank you so much !!

I really appreciate the time and effort you have put in to help fix my problem.

Once again,

Thank you!!

Glad I could help. :)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!

Hi,

Extra note... I've noticed a small bug in Combofix where the uninstall option corrupts the exe file association, so this results in the fact that, when you open your Internet Explorer you may get http://files/Interne...er/IEXPLORE.EXE instead.

To fix it...

Go to start > run and type: cmd

In the command Window, type:

ftype exefile="%1" %*

Hit enter

Make sure there's a space there, so "%1"<space>%*
