jw, I have tried searching for D:\WINDOWS\system32\o.vbs but it doesn't seem to exist. I see it too in the log but I can't find it in my System32 file. :) :)

will you paste D:\WINDOWS\system32\o.vbs into the upload dialog 'box' on that page instead of browsing for it then. If it DOES exist that will upload it no matter if you can see it or not.

jwbirdsong, I have not noticed any ill effects of my computer. I think it is back to 100% thanks to you! However I still have the taskbar problem. I have been playing around with the display properties (right click desktop>properties>appearance tab) and under windows and buttons there are no options other than Windows Classic Style. I am certain there is supposed to be an XP theme there. I have a feeling some of the files got corrupted from the smitfraud virus. Do you know of a way to restore those files? Should I run a repair off the XP CD??

Also let me know when (if) it is safe to remove the stuff that I had to download to run the programs and post the logs. Or should I keep all that??

Thank you once again!

Should I run a repair off the XP CD

Certianly won't hurt...make sure to follow the guidelines HERE

IF you CD doesn't match your install it will let you know.
Open Hijackthis.
click "config"
click "misc tools"
Click "delete a file at reboot"
In the box provided paste in this line then click "open":

D:\WINDOWS\system32\o.vbs

You should be asked if you are sure you want to delete file.
Say yes to delete file and let Hijackthis reboot the machine.

Before you do the repair

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

    • Posted Image

  • When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard and IE/Spyad.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It is free.

More info and download is available at links in the following article by TonyKlein

Make SURE to read How Did I Get Infected in the First Place??

Let me know how you get on w/ the repair....if that doesn't work we'll look for other avenues.

Alright jw, I did the housecleaning, downloaded the spyware programs and ATTEMPTED to do a repair off the XP disk, but it was a home disk and I have pro, so it didn't work. Is there a way to download the files I need so the XP theme could run?? Right now it looks like my OS is windows 98.
Also, I've been noticing just the last 2 nights that my computer is very slow on startup. It wants to hang up a long time on the XP startup screen.
