I have been researching the myzor virus and trying to clean my computer for about a week. Here is what I have done so far.
Went into Tools menu of IE window and disabled questionable add-ons to keep security tool bars and redirects from occurring.
Turned off System Restore feature.
Loaded AVG and Adaware and did scans, removing anything they found.
Started computer in safe mode and rescanned with AVG, removing all other virus and trojan components.
Loaded HijackThis and performed scan and fix on all questionable components ( I know I should have waited for help but I hadn't found your site yet)
Loaded ATF and cleaned all temporary files.
Ran FixIEDef and it found and deleted nothing.
Attached is the HijackThis Log as it now stands. Everything seems to be working great. No pop-ups, redirects, security warnings, or extra toolbars.
Just looking for someone to tell me if the log looks clean so I can turn on my System Restore feature again.
Thanks for the help.

Hi jail fox

The log looks ok, but lets have a better look before declaring it clean

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Hi

Just a couple leftovers to get and one other important step

open Notepad and copy the contents of the code box below into it.
save it as Fix.reg.
You must make sure that you save it with the file extension ".reg" or it will not work.
Once you have saved the file double-click on it and you will be asked if you are sure you want to merge this file with the registry, click yes.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser]
"{C4DFA6F3-1245-41E5-8E60-7D31427F01B3}"=-

Next

Browse for and delete this file C:\WINDOWS\system32\instlsp.exe

Go to Microsoft's website => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994
Select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System. (Windows XP SP2)

Download the file & save it as it's originally named, next to ComboFix.exe.

Now close all open windows and programs, then drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it. Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console. When complete, a log named CF_RC.txt will open. Please post the contents of that log.

Please do not reboot your machine until we have reviewed the log.

Hello,
Sorry for the small delay. We are experiencing strong winds, sleet, ice, and snow. I didn't want to take the chance of having the power go off (which it did several times) and have to reboot the computer before you said it was OK. Here is the CF_RC.txt log.

WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU.exe
[boot loader]
timeout=2
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

Thanks for the help.

No problem on the delay

That looks fine, you can reboot at any time.

How is the machine running?

Thanks.

The machine is running great. I think it is faster than ever, but that probably is because I replaced an outdated McAffee with AVG. Thanks for all the help.
