I'm writing, begging for help from you who know more than any tech support I've ever called. I get this sick feeling in my stomach every time I have to call because I know they don't half as much as I do and their scripted answers, most likely aren't going to work and then they just want to rush me off the phone so that their call times aren't too long. Which means I have to call back and wait on hold forever again to start the merry go round again so...i'm here...be gentle I don't know much but let me explain-

I just purchased a Brother HL2170W wireless printer. I have a laptop running windows XP. I also have a mac G4 running OSX that the router is connected to. BUT first things first. All I wan to do is get the printer to work with my laptop at this point. I have tried installing the driver software but it does have trouble finding my printer. I feel like I finally got it completed but I can't get my laptop to find the printer. Also is there anywhere I can check to be sure the driver was installed? I followed the directions at least 30 times. I even uninstalled software, reset the printer to factory settings, made sure firewall was off, restarted computer, plugged and unplugged the cables. Oh I am trying the installation where you connect the ethernet cable temporarily to the router and to the printer. I just can't seem to print with the laptop, when I open a file and choose print it asks me to add a printer through the network printer wizard no networ printers show up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please speak simply if you have any advice for me. If I don't get my problem fixed here it's back on the phone with tech support, my tormenters.
Thanks

Well I will definitely try and get this solved for you, seeings how I run an IT Dept and Im sure Ive made people feel the way you do :)

I just want to clarify a couple things first. Are you going to keep a network cable plugged into the printer at all times?
Or are you going to use it wireless?
Also are you manually setting the IP address or is there a DHCP server?
We need to know what or how it is going to get an IP address, once we do that, then we can go ahead and set it up.

Thank you so much. After many times calling tech support my problem was finally esclated to a senior tech. They called me back, which was nice, and we got it fixed. They had to set a static IP. That was the problem which I don't have any clue about how it works but the senior tech walked me through it until it worked properly. Now, if I could have that tech support every time I'd be happy. What I don't understand is that seems like a fairly common problem, why didn't the other techs recognize what the problem was. Thank you so much for trying help me though.

Also, you should post a "New Topic" if you have a problem.
