I will be buying a new computer soon and was wondering if Vista home premium comes with Microsoft office or not. In the event that it doesn't, would my old 2003 copy of office for Windows XP work with Vista or not?

Hello, and welcome to Geeks To Go.
While Office 2003 does work with Vista, if this program has been installed on another computer you will not be able to reuse it.
(unless you have a multi user liscence).
A trial version of Office will come with your computer. You will have to buy it after the trial period. (90 days)
Make sure you ask the sales person if the Office is a trial version, they will try to fool you!

I will look into what type of license I have for my 2003 office.

Do any of the Vista versions come with office or is that something that I have to buy on my own regardless of which Vista I bought? I've tried looking for this on Microsoft's site, but they seem to avoid answering this question.

thank you for your help.

OK, here is how it works.
Vista does not come with Office or Word.
This is a seperate group of software.
The manufacture, or value added reseller, will put a trial version of Office on the computer.
The retail store will advertise that the computer has Office, they will not tell you that it is a trial version unless you ask. (I work for a VAR).
Then, after you use the trial version for 90 days you will have to pay for the full version.
Vista is an Operating system. It does not contain Office.

If your buying online, say from dell, sometimes it comes with office or at least Works. It depends on the package you get. They almost always provide the option of ordering it with the pc at the time of purchase.

You can uninstall office 2003 from the old pc and then install it on the new pc. For the licence to be valid, you have to remove it from the old one. Note: when you activate it online, you may have to contact microsoft for a new activation key.
