I have a three year old HP computer with XP that has bit the bullet, but I did make the backup DVD for it when I first plugged it in. Can I use the DVD to remove and rebuild XP on my new computer. It is a GATEWAY GT5426F with AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 5200+2.6GHZ and 1918 MB Ram. Will I need a code number or is it enbeded in the backup DVD? I have a little savy, but question some when I start trying to make changes. Want to make sure I do it right.

Hello, and welcome to Geeks To Go.
The recovery disc for your HP will not work on any other computer. It is machine specific.
You will not be able to load XP on your new computer because the drivers for your hardware are written for Vista only.
Please make recovery disc for the new computer so that you can restore it if you try to load XP any ways.
Otherwise you will have to buy a copy of Vista, and that is not cheap.
