Printer not working

One day my printer was working and the next I get this message... 'print spooler service is not running'. I am not very computer literate but have run a few tests and keep getting the same result.
My computer is a Dell running on Windows XP and on one of the 'windows' sites it is suggested to start the computer in 'safe mode' and do lots of things (havn't got a clue) and was not able to print off the page and the instructions were very difficult....
Anyone able to help.... I've looked at previous threads and I cannot find a solution.

Please, very computer illiterate...
