I have PCL6 driver for my 3390 which I downloaded from the HP site.

My Vista machine can print directly attached to the printer (another host of problems here with the network).

However, my XP machine also directly attached via a USB cable & network cable gets the PCL error.

I tried to delete the PCL6 driver and step down to the PCL5 - printer only package, but it did not install (unpacked, never ran).
I am now back to the PCL6 driver and got the same error.

Any suggestions...Need to print from the XP machine this evening!!!

on your windows xp system, try removing printer. If prompted to remove drivers, say yes. You will need to know where the drivers unpacked to on your local system. Make sure they are drivers for windows xp.

Go to Add Printer. After wizard pops up, deselect "automatically detect and install plug and play printer". Click next, then click next, then select HP (left hand column). Select "Have Disk". Point to driver location. Follow prompts for installing.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Starjax,

After reading on the HP forum that this PCL XL error is a common headache, I did what some others users did - step down to the PCL5 driver(Universal) and now I can print from the XP machine.

Thnx anyway for your response. It was a very frustrating day!
