Hi everyone,

I've got some major problems with my computer and I'm not quite sure what the culprit is, so I'm posting in here. Quick background: I accidentally/stupidly got infected with the PCAntiSpyware virus about two weeks ago. I visited these and other forums to see how to take care of it and then subsequently downloaded HackThis and proceeded to scan and fix the problems. I'm unsure if I may have inadvertently "fixed" something that shouldn't have, missed some files that I should have, or if my current problems actually have anything to do with my previous infection at all (the PCAntiSpyware popups and other symptoms aren't showing anymore).

What I do know is that I am having the following symptoms/problems:

  • Task Manager does not appear when pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete - I can't seem to find the Task Manager anywhere
  • "Add/Remove Programs" isn't showing up at all in my Control Panel anymore - same with the Task manager, I don't know how to access it at all anymore
  • My computer is running much slower than it was even two weeks ago
  • My browsers freeze periodically (it's much more pronounced in IE than in Firefox which I use most often)
  • iTunes won't play music at all - I've updated to the most recent version and everything, but the problem remains that when I start up the program everything's fine and dandy (speakers work fine too), but it just won't play music (I would post this under the software forum, but am including it here in case it's related in any way to the other symptoms I'm having)

Other than the system info I put down during registration, let me know what all you guys need to know about my computer.

Thanks!!

Please follow all of the steps in this section of the Malware Forum. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum. Should you post in that forum please do not respond to your own topic. Our Malware Staff look for topics to help out in that have no responses. The Malware Forum is very busy with many more requests for help than we have volunteer helpers, so please be patient. If you have not had a response to a topic after 3 days then please go to the Waiting Room and read the pinned topic for instructions.
