169 IP seems to be the issue... this tells me your computer isn't seeing the DHCP server and your not getting a valid ip address.
Some questions I have for you hopefully you can answer for me...
Who makes your Router? If it's a linksys they come factory with this kind of set up.
192.168.1.1 (Router ip)
255.255.255.0 (subnet mask)
192.168.1.1 (Default Gateway)
192.168.1.1 (DNS)
Username:
password: admin
It could be possible your not seeing the address for a few reasons:
1. Your running some kind of funky firewall which isn't allowing you to obtain a valid ip.
2. Your router has disabled DHCP... ( this will let you connect but you wont get a valid ip from it)
I would suggest power cycling both the dsl/cable modem and the router then waiting 30 seconds.... turn the modem back on wait for the green lights to get on and in sync then turn on the router. Try connecting your machine using ethernet cable to see if your getting a valid ip address... if you are then we have isolated that theory 1 and 2 are not the reason... and that possible the winsock associated with your wireless is FuQD so you need to repair your tpc/ip stack for your wireless connection...
Let me know... maybe if you get ahold on me online by connecting it via ethernet cable I can remote into your machine and fix your problem.
