My desktop pc has a 64gb capacity and is currently running 32gb (4 x 8gb DDR4). Could I remove one of the memory sticks and replace it with a larger one (for example, replace it with a 16gb stick)?

Sorry but you have post on a tech forum asking for help but have provided zero information about your computer or it`s hardware, this makes it impossible for anyone to be able to safely advise you.

 

Not all MBs will work with anything more than 4 or 8GB sticks per slot and when it comes to RAM you should always replace/upgrade it in pairs and when four sticks of RAM are involved it all needs to be the exact same spec else you will get issues.

 

16GB working in dual channel is more than enough RAM for most users and with the exception of dedicated fans of flight sims only pro video editors and programmers etc tending to need anything more.

 

Can I ask what the main use of the PC is.

Thank you for replying. My PC is a Dell OptiPlex 7040 Small Form Factor. I do some gaming with it, but mostly I download a lot of music and videos. I find that it is slow opening large files and certain software apps. That's why I wondered if I could increase the Ram.

You have more than enough RAM for your usage and adding more RAM apart from it not being of any benefit gaming wise adding more RAM would not speed up the computer as you already have dual channel mode.

 

Your PC specs here dont tell us what CPU the computer has but it does say that it only has 2133MHz RAM.

 

Can you let us know what CPU your computer has  the speed of the RAM that you have.
