i personally dont remember, and i have tried that with the new ram and the old ones to and still nothing changes.

go to http://www.memtest.org/ and follow their instructions for downloading and creating a bootable RAM diagnostics disk and run it at least twice (overnight can be more effective but isn't required)


or go to http://oca.microsoft.../en/windiag.asp and get the microsoft "version" and run it at least twice

report back any errors

but will the computer actually boot the disk if it wont power up

no guarantees at all on that....depends on what level it's dying at.....with your description theres actually a chance that it won't

....you'd have to be able to verify that it's actually good though....which may require putting it in a different machine and seeing if it boots.....

ok say i find a computer that is compatible and the memory boots up or atleast where i could use memtest and everything checks out good. what would that mean for my computer new mobo ?

possibly....it's possible that there's a problem with the ram controller itself...which of course is ridiculously hard to test or prove

well after trying to figure it out for over 3 hours last night i finally just started looking at new mobo with the thought to just use all the current hardware on the new board. atleast i could use the original ram as i know for a fact that its good. is this a viable idea or should i just buy a new computer all together
