Hi Guys,

I have a Compaq Desktop PC that I purchased in January of this year. It is fairly new with Windows Vista. Since I have gotten this computer, I have decided to leave my computer on continually and just let it sleep at night, rather than turning it off and on every day. However, I have noticed that after a few days of being on, my desktop will turn screwy.

In particular, all of the toolbar icons at the bottom left will get shifted left. As well, all of the windows I have open at the bottom of my screen will shift left. The icons in the bottom righthand corner of my toolbar (i.e. where my Clock is) will completley disappear and go blank. During this time, I will not be able to click on any of my desktop icons. It will just act like I am highlighting, rather than clicking on icons. It pretty much becomes impossible to even continue on at this point or select any options, because the icons are shifted and the computer is practically frozen although not quite.

I have taken a screenshot of the entire toolbar to show you guys what I mean.

As you can see, all of the icons in my Quick Launch toolbar have all shifted left and the start icon is pretty much overlapping them. I am gettnig really frustrated with this and don't want to have to start turning on and off my computer from now on. I don't see that this should be an issue, as my work computer is always on and I just log out every night. Plus, I use my work computer far longer so I don't know why my home PC has a problem staying on.

Has any of you heard of such an issue or had an issue yourself personally? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Kevin

Some devices don't like being pulled into action straight from when the computer goes to sleep.
A restart every once in a while isn't an uncommon Windows situation with the exception of Windows 2000 which was so rock solid you could leave it on for months and it'd still be happy. Unfortunately Vista isn't as solid as Win2k so depending on the hardware and the programs used (and the amount of updates downloaded) a reboot possibly every other week may be standard.
