Internet doesn't work but can ping web addresses

Hi, this is my problem:

In cmd i can ping web addresses like www.google.com and 192.168.1.1 but when i open Internet or Firefox it just says page error or equivalent. The computer is connected wirelessly to a router and i've tried this on two wireless networks and i have the same problem. Have run spybot checks and it has found things and fixed them but it didn't solve things. Also have run a winsock fixer tool, but again it didn't fix the problem.
Also the internet works in safe mode networking but not obviously actual xp
Any ideas??
