My laptop has a 160 GB SATA drive and I'm looking into getting a bigger one. I have Windows XP on the first partition (80 GB) and Ubuntu 8.04 on the second partition (80 GB). Is there a way to use Symantec Ghost to make an exact image of my entire drive so I can copy everything back to my new drive?

Linux is my main concern here. I've spent a long time setting everything up and optimizing it exactly the way I want it, so I don't want to lose all those settings. Is there a way to do this with Ghost (Preferably Ghost Enterprise Solutions Suite 1.1?)

If not, what good alternatives are out there?

Finding "cross platform" disk imaging software may not be easy. I don't think that Ghost is suitable for Linux, there is actually something called ghost4linux which is specifically for Linux.

You might be able to use dd which is built into Linux. Just boot from a live CD without mounting the drives to use it. It does a bit by bit, sector by sector copy of one drive, or disk image to another.

Clonezilla is platform-free cloning solution. Everything is done via a live CD.
