Hi all,,
Thought it was too good to be true, , just discovered my first incompatibility with VISTA x64 ! !

Tried to download Adobe Flash player as i realised that was what was stopping me veiwing certain parts of web pages, and even my own webpage on soundclick (my host media player wont work).

According to adobe, flash player wont install on a x64bit browser, , ,

It will install and play on a x64 system, providing the internet explorer is 32bit.

First , , has anyone heard any news on when adobe may be sorting this out, , as they say they are working towards a solution at present.

Also, , what (if any ) difference is there between windows explorer 32bit and 64bit ? ? ?

I assume, you're talking about Internet Explorer...
If so, basically there is no difference, at least until 64 bit plug-ins will show up, and most web pages will support 64 bit browsing.
For now, your best option is to just run 32 bit.

How on earth do i convert internet explorer back to 32 bit without doing a complete reformatt and fresh install ? ?

I am very happy with my x64bit pc at the moment and have no problems apart from this well known issue with x64 explorer and any sites with flash content. Until Adobe get their finger out, i am stuffed with x64 explorer and as such, would like to return to 32 bit explorer only, , but i cant find any information on how to do it. I certainly dont remember any option to install x32 or x64 bit explorer during the install, , but apparently, that should have been an option ? ? Very confusing information out there at times.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thankyou,

I'm not sure about Vista, but on XP computers, there are two IE versions present 64-bit, and 32-bit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896457
Maybe it's the same with Vista.

Yes.
http://msmvps.com/bl...25/1651939.aspx

Vista x64 comes with two versions of Internet Explorer, a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version. The No Add-Ons version is simply the 32 bit version with a special switch added to the target path.

There is no need to install anything to get access to the 32 bit (x86) version of Internet Explorer. Simply run the correct executable. These are the target paths:

Vista (32 bit) = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
Vista (64 bit) = "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
Vista (No Add-Ons) = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

Hi all,
Am back to square one with my recent instal of VISTA PREMIUM X64 BIT.

The only problem i have encountered so far with x64 bit explorer is the inability to play or display flash content.
I am aware that ADOBE are working towards a cross platform solution to the x64 bit problem in 64bit explorer and despite yesterdays release of the beta version of flash player 10 with this fix, , its only available for LINUX users.
The true cross platform release isnt to be seen anywhere on the horizon just yet and as such, i am still stuck with a x64 bit internet explorer that doesnt display ANY flash content. I thought that going x64 would bring an improvement to my pc, and always presumed that x64 was the next big step up and finaly see the end of 32bit operating systems altogether.
Quite obviously i was wrong and it seem to be evident from the rumour mill that most research funding is at this moment, is geared towards 128bit and even 256bit operations , , posibly spending little on the present 64bit problems , , , the rumour mill is as always subject to scrutiny and it has to be remembered that rumours like this abound all the time, , it does however lay a few seeds of thought ! !

Anyway, , my real question is , , , How do i get to use 32 bit internet explorer on my fully 64bit operating system ? ?
I know that 32 bit explorer WILL work on x64 vista OS, but i only have the option to use the installed 64bit explorer.
Contrary to popular belief, , there was NO option during the install to opt for either 32 bit or 64 bit explorer, , i wasnt given a choice and although i love my 64 bit system and have NO hardware or software faults so far (apart from flash) i want to keep it.

I just want flash content to be displayed, , , , for gods sake, , i cant even view or use the embedded player on MY OWN WEBSITE, , !

How do i get 32 bit explorer to work in a system that only presently has 64bit explorer ? ? ?

Or better all round question, if it can be answered, , , , , when is ADOBE going to release FLASH PLAYER 10 with the full cross platform version for x64 compatibility, , any ideas when this might be, , beta or otherwise ? ? ?

Would very much welcome any answers, , clarity , or indeed , further debate.

Many thanks, , kev

Oh,, , Fantastic, ,

Ebay picture uploader doesnt work either so i cant even sell on ebay. :)

Is it all "active x " content that wont display/work/install ? ? ?

Surely Adobe isnt responsible for all active x functions ? ? ? If they are, then its about time they got their fat fingers out of their arses and start acting like the supposed cutting edge market leaders that they think they are :)

I need to get back to internet explorer 32 bit, , , HOW ? ? ?

Please help if you can, , this is very quiickly becoming a joke.
Building a great machine all by myself and installing what i though was going to give me a little future proofing against the fast paced techological revolution is turning out to be a huge step backwards now.

I have vista x64 and flash installed and it works fine. IE beta 8 and flash 10 don't get along well at all. If you have installed ie 8 beta, then I would STRONGLY recommend that it be uninstalled.

Hi there, , thanks for the reply,
Unfortunatly i have just started another thread on this issue. Because it had been a few days and nothing no answer to my question , i thought i wouls start again ,,, so sorry for crossposting.

Anyhow, , getting back to this thread, , i have tried running the link for the 32 bit explorer shown above in your reply, and sent it to the desktop.
When i open internet from the new icon, i have the same active x / flash problems, so it would appear that the ie in the links you provided are the same ? still 64 bit ? ?

Unless i am doing something wrong, , , in laymans terms, how am i supposed to proceed using the links you have kindly provided ?

As far as i know, i still have internet explorer 7, , dont remember upping to a beta of ie 8 ? ?

However, i still cant get any flash content to work, , if an active x box appears anywhere and i install the control, it just open the "install " box and then does nothing. It doesnt freeze, or crash or anything like that, , it just doesnt do anything, as if i didnt click the install button properly ? ?

Its all very confusing, , , and i must appologise to anyone who is offended, , i appear to have crossposted this issue with another thread that didnt seem to be getting much attention.

Any further guidance would be greatly accepted, , thankyou

Starjax, ,
Thanks for merging the threads for me , , and apologies for my apparent impatience for starting another ! :)

Am going to have another go at this following the adobe instructions and see where it takes me.
You will hopefully forgive my reluctance to jump around with joy as i have gotten nowhere so far. Goggle is full of information about adobe flash NOT working with x64 bit explorer, , and very little about how to remedy the situation, , but i will say, , after many days of scouring adobes website for answers, i not one came across the page you have just linked to me , , so, it appears to look a little more promising than anything else that i have come across so far Thankyou.

Will post back as soon as i have followed the instructions.

Cheers, , kev

Well , , i was right to not jump for joy.
Have followed the adobe instructions note for note and still no joy.

The only things that have changed is, ,

1/ Adobe flash player 10 installed correctly and is visible in the " programs and features "tab under control panel.

2/ Now, , Every single internet page, , i mean every single click of the mouse, now enables a prompt box asking me if i want to display active x content/controls , , for which i now have to click yes , , every single time. :)

My embedded content and embedded media player on my soundclick webpage and ebay picture uploader are the only times i have noticed that flash was not working in the past. Now, even after installing adobe flash player 10, , these two sites are STILL not functioning as they should ? ?

I am at a loss, , i must be doing something wrong somewhere.
When i was building this system, i ensured that there were x64 bit drivers for all my hardware and my software before i fully commited to installing x64 bit vista , , i did expect some incompatibilitys somewhere along the line, but i didnt expect the most vital function of a pc to not work, ie the internet.
I think this is going to take a long time to sort out.

One thing i dont understand though is, , Adobes own website admits that flash doesnt work in with a 64bit explorer. In the last day or two, they have released a beta version of 64 bit flash for the linux community with the version 10 download, and continue to say that they are at present working on a fix for a complete cross platform patch so that compatibility can move forward for windows and mac based operating systems.
Doesnt this in effect say that flash, including the latest version 10, DONT work with 64 bit explorer ? ?
Its not the 64bit os that is the problem as all versions of flash will install and work correctly on any 64 bit os, , its just that it wont work or install correctly on a 64bit explorer, , will work fine with 32 bit explorer on a 64 bit system, , but not 64bit explorers ? ?

Am getting very confused by the statements coming out of adobe, and the apparent fixes that they are promoting, ie the link you passed on to me ? ?

ok. Lets go back to basics and check you shortcut to IE. Below are the two shortcuts.

Internet Explorer
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

Internet Explorer x64
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

Please check which one you are executing. You want to be executing the first one and not the second one listed.

Ok, , right.

On my desktop is a shortcut to ie from the start menu.
Its the x64 bit version but in properties says "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

On the start menu there are 2 different ie icons , , both are showing only "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe", but one is x64, however, both are showing the same flash problems so both MUST be 64 bit explorers.

Neither of them, even from the start menu says x86 anywhere in their properties ? ?
