I'm working on a program using Visual Basic that will allow a user to input a poker hand and be given the value of the hand(straight flush, full house, two pairs, etc.)

I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to stuff so laymens terms would be preferred. I just need some advice on how to approach this and the steps I'll need to follow.
