AVG has had some issues of late with false positives, including one in which they deleted a critical Windows file. AVG 8 is also more bloated than previous versions. However, any of the programs that we recommend in the link posted by ScHwErV, including AVG, are good programs (and certainly are much better alternatives than having no protection!).
