Welcome aboard!
Looks like you have lost the device drivers on your display adapter!! Well, that doens't help you much i suppose. Here's what yu must do
Right click on your My Computer icon in the start menu. Then click on the Hardware tab. Then click on the Device Manager button and a new window will pop-up with all your drivers listed there. Look under other, i think that is where you will find the Display drivers hopefully. Or Simply look under all the ones and you will hopefully see a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark in it - indicating that drivers are missing or need updating. Double click and it should do the rest for you!!!
Hopefully this should work!! If it doesn't post back here, and we'll see what we can do
Cheers

Your video drivers will either be on the systemboard cd supplied with your system, or simply go to the Dell website and search your system.. The drivers downloads should be there..
Just download and install them!!

I have installed Win98SE, but it doesn't have 256 color display or 1024x768 pixel display either. I have installed driver after driver. I really need to know what to do. I appreciate any help.

I have a Compaq MV740 monitor, and a Phoenix computer (?), both are ancient. I used to have a Compaq Presario V410 monitor, but it doesn't work too well. There's plenty here on the Dell site, but you may have to look on the actuall devices for th;e part numbers because they seem to use many types of devices.
