Ok my vista home keeps for some reason booting in safe mode. But the thing is, it starts up normally, with the normal screen. All the resolution looks normal, but then when desktop comes up, it shows the old "windows 2000" skin, which is the grey one.

How do i know it's safe mode? Well i am currently trying to fix this problem, which is basically making my "windows installer" go corrupt. I just need to run this file to fix it, but everytime i try to, it says "cannot run this file in safe mode".

I go to "msconfig" and i try to tick "normal startup" settings, but when i click apply, it GOES BACK TO selective startup ????

The picture below shows this.

When i try to disable some start up program, when i click "apply" it goes bak to default automatically. When i try to click "make boot settings permanant" as soon as i tick that box, it all goes back to default settings :S

PLEASE HELP ME :s:s:s:s

If computer is in Safe Mode, "Safe Mode" is displayed in all four corners, so, you're not booting into Safe Mode.
What do you mean by Win 2000 skin? Was Win 2000 installed previously on your computer?

Let me explain better:

1. My vista laptop kept getting blue screens, and viruses. I fixed the blue screen error by disabling a network adapter driver called "isatap.{01182350-D6DD-4D99-8E2C-160235DB29AC}"

2. I tried to then remove viruses by installing antivirus programs, but none would install, and they all gave an "installer" error like in the picture below -

3. Then i found a solution on the internet to run this file, which would hopefully fix the installer problem, but then this safe mode error comes up -

4. Now i'm completly stuck. I can't remove any viruses or nothing, my computer is getting mashed up the more i try to fix it. And when i say it's in safe mode, just look at the screen below, AND I DONT EVER REMEMBERING ME CHANGING THE SKIN OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. -

If you want further proof that this for some reason is in safe mode or w/e, then i can also take print screens of my personalization settings, i even tried to click on the original one, and it showed the same old windows 2000 skin as default.

Please help me...

I have the same problem as this topic here suggests, but i don't know what the solution is - http://forums.pcpits...w...159445&st=0

EDIT: would also like to mention that Hijackthis, and malware don't install so i can't run them :) When i click, double click or even right click it just shows a 2 second load icon and that's it, nothing happens.

Well, since your computer is infected....

I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

ignore this as it's no longer an issue. This is the real issue thread - http://www.geekstogo...or-t222292.html

Tylerscool, to fix it type regedit in the search box.

Then search for "SafeBoot"

And if there's 3 folders underneath it, and if there is one folder there called "options", delete it tbh.

And that should fix it..

So now you should have 2 folders under SafeBoot only.

sorry my search has been disabled since the switch, there is no safe boot logo on the sides, also i have found a safe boot folder but there are only 2 folders and that is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Control>Safeboot inside the Safeboot folder at 2 folders Minimal and Network i don't know if this is the folder that you are talking about. If possible if you can find the folder yourself and give it to me that would be good.

No i'm not sure then.

With "Minimal" and "Network"... i had a third folder "Option", and i had to delete that. Once i did, it booted up normally without any safemode functions or anything.
