hi my problem is not very common among forums and things but i have found someone with the same problem on this forum who described the problem very well so ill quote that here

Hey all!!!

Just a fast one here smile.gifsmile.gif

I play Counter Strike 1.6

Never had a problem with it, but now i go to play it, (via Steam) and my computer crashers?

I have no problem while starting Steam, then it gose on to say "Logging In To Counter Strike"(or something like that).

Counter Strike opens the background comes up, but the task bar get bigger (about 2x) and sits over the top of it, the computer crashers and forces me to restart.

Is it some thing i'm doing?

If it helps I have a Windows XP and i know my computer can run Counter Strike.

Anything would be helpfull.smile.gifsmile.gif

Brendan.

this quote came from here http://www.geekstogo...=counter strike

when he says "Logging in to counter strike" he means "preparing to launch Counter-Strike" which is the message that comes up after launching cs from the My Games list in steam.

it doesnt make my pc crash but the only way i can get the pc back to normal is by ending task hl.exe in the task manager.

i also know my pc can easily play cs1.6 as it has been working for years. my video card is Radeon 9200 series and i have the latest drivers.

i have tried redownloading and reinstalling Steam AND counter strike more than a few times. ive Verified Intefrity of Cache of cs using steam. ive deleted Cstrike file in SteamApps folder. ive replaced the .blob file which is supposed to fix a lot of problems. so far NOTHING has helped adn i cant find anything else.

the only thing i could possibly suggest is that my video card has overheated since we are having 40degree celcius temperatures in my area and my card has had problems in the past with heat, but has always recovered back to normal. atm temps around my area are cold at about 20 degrees so theres no more heat problems. im PRETTY sure all dust has been cleaned from my system also.
the only other game i have on my pc is AOE2 and that works fine.

TY for any help
