I had a power surge at my house and when I rebooted my computer everything was fine until I went into Outlook Express. I had an email which I did not open as it was junk mail. Every time I go to delete it, it hangs my computer completely up with the hourglass just sitting there and will do nothing else. I have tried moving the email to the delete folder, but that does not work either. I have to keep rebooting. Is there a way I can delete this email. THANKS

Where is the E-mail? In the Inbox?
Can you move all the other mail that you want to keep to another folder?
Are you having problems deleting anything else?

Hi, the email is in the inbox. Apparently during the power surge that one was the one affected. I can delete all my other old emails or move the ones I need to keep anywhere I want. This is the one email that is the problem. THANKS

First thing to try would be to Compact the Inbox.
Move everything you want to keep to another folder.
With the Inbox open, Click File>Work-offline.
Click File>Folder>Compact.
When it's done compacting, click File>Work-offline to remove the checkmark.
See if the E-mail can be deleted.

If it won't delete, you'll need to go into the Message Store folder.
You need to have Hidden files and Folders showing.
At the top of any folder(My Documents for example) click Tools>Folder Options>View tab.
Scroll down the list and place a check next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" then click Apply and OK.

In OE
Click on Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>Store Folder.
On the Store Location box, highlight the address by pressing the Tab key on your keyboard.
Press Control+C (both at the same time) to copy the address to the clipboard.
Click Cancel on all boxes and close OE.

Click on Start>Run.
Press Control+V (both at the same time) to paste the address into the command line and click OK.
The Store Folder containing all the DBX files should open.
Find the file Inbox.dbx and delete it.
When you next open OE, a new empty Inbox will be created.
Let me know if one of those works for you.

T. :)

I just came back to give an update and saw your reply. I tried half an hour ago and the message deleted just fine into the delete box and then I emptied the delete box and it is working. I am not sure what made it work, as I did not do anything. THANKS again for following up!
