I am quite new to PC's although I have just built one. I was wondering why it takes so long for the Windows XP loading screen to finish. The 3 blue blocks go from left to right about 35 times but judder from time to time. I dont have a bad rig, AMD 64 3000, 1GB ram, XP Pro (btw)
I was wondering if there was anyone that could help? Thanks guys.

To look at what is loading at start up.

Click start, All programmes, Start up.

To many programmes loading will slow your computer down.

Also click Start, Run, and type msconfig in and go to start up tab, this will show you all the programmes starting. Becareful not to remove any programmes needed.

ANother check would be to hit the control, alt, del keys and see what running under pocesses, is there anything there using a lot of the CPU

You can try what Turkish has said, but here's a better idea.

Click "Start", then "Run", type "eventvwr.msc", and press Enter.

These are events generated by programs. Events are labled as "Information", "Warnings", or "Errors". Look under the Application and System links for the events generated during the last couple of days (or whenever this problem started). What we're looking for are many errors generated by the same source. Under those sections, Application and System, tell us what you see.

When you see all of these errors, it means the program failed to load and tried to restart. If a program fails many times, it has to restart many times. If the error is sever enough, it can really cripple your boot time.

The programs Turkish is having you remove from MSCONFIG generally load after you get to the desktop. If your system is slow at the Windows Loading Screen, then disabling the programs he is talking about won't help you much. He is correct, however, in the fact that your computer will run faster if you disable some of those programs which load and run in the background at system startup.

Let us know what events are generating the most errors and we'll go from there. OK?

Hi There,

I am also following this topic as I am also experiencing the same problem in that the Windows Loading screen (with the scrolling 3 blue bars) is taking longer than usual to load.

It only started doing this to me after I had successfully removed the nail.exe Malware using the ewido security suite. All of the Malware appears to have gone, but I am left with a real slow booting PC.

I have looked in event viewer as reccommended & I don't see any unusual errors/warning under application/system. There have been, but they go back to before I had this problem & there are none showing today even though the problem still exsists. Anything else you can advise ??

Let me ask you this. When was the last time you fed the mouse inside your PC? An underfed mouse won't run as fast on the wheel as a well fed mouse will. This of course, results in slower boot times.

Ok, Ok, I shouldn't have said that. But really now:

Open the "Boot.ini" file from the "C" drive with notepad. Paste the text in a post here.

I hope there is something there we can work with.

I have an other idea.

Here goes:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab > Startup and Recovery Settings (I think it's called that because I use windows XP in dutch. There it's called opstart- en herstelinstellingen ) > you will see 2 numbers almost at the top of the page which you can change. First time you do this, make the numbers half of what they are now, when you get a good startup, make the number to whatever you like. My numbers are tuned down to 1 and 5 and it works fast without a problem for me.

please double click the TCPIP error and the DHCP error. and post results.
