Every time I boot up my Vista machine, I get an install dialogue window that says " Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine" Here is a screenshot:

If I just let it go, it fails, closes itself, and then I cannot open Windows Explorer. Every time I try to open explorer, I get the Vista error message saying "the program has stopped working, Vista is looking for a solution", and then it closes and I get the report error menu.

If I click cancel, that dialogue box goes away, and an identical one opens. If i click cancel on that one, another one appears. if i cancel that one, no more show up and the computer works normally. Is there anyway to fix this?

go to add remove programs and uninstall MSDE (microsoft sql desktop engine). This is not compatible with vista.

If you have something that requires sql, then you need to be running sql 2005 express.
