iTunes trouble

Not sure where this belongs. New to the board. But I get the message in iTunes that the connection has timed out check your connections and try again.

Here is the backstory. My old computer went BOOM (it was 8 years old). So I go buy a new one. I install iTunes on the new computer and here is the problem. Now I have even gone so far as to turn off the firewall to see if that is the problem. Didn't make a difference. I don't have norton. I have AVG. Please help quick I miss my iTunes.
